Parenting is hard…
Real hard.
Like…baby on hip, coffee in hand while running a one-legged marathon backwards in high heels kind of hard.
And anyone who says different…isn’t a parent!😉
Kids are walking, talking contradictions, who in the span of ten seconds will make you want to scream, cry, smile, and kiss their sweet little faces.
They are the hardest, most stressful, most awesome, best thing you will ever do.
From the moment of their birth, they become the bittersweet fruit of your womb, simultaneously causing you the greatest of pains and the greatest of joys.
From that moment, your world is their life and their life becomes yours. And somewhere in the midst of barely coping with the sleepless nights and stress-filled days, you may begin to lose yourself, only to be found again in the still of night while you hold and rock them gently, tenderly-breathing in their sweet baby smell, knowing that this is it…This is the greatest gift you will ever get and you only have this time, this moment to hold and remember what this feels like.
“Children are a gift from the Lord. They are a reward from Him.”- Psalm 127:3
Because all too soon, they will be gone.
And it makes you realize everyday is precious. There are never too many cookies, silly dances, or ‘I love you’s’.
Because one day, you will find yourself old and gray and longing with all your heart to have those days back. You will hear the sounds of your children’s laughter and see them running with child-like excitement through your mind’s eye. Oh, how sweet those days were!
So, even though there will be times where you feel like you just can’t do it or when the thought of watching their favorite show just might make your head explode, remember…
Your children are there for you to love and enjoy, even on the bad days( a friendly reminder to myself first!) They will grow older and they will leave your loving mama arms aching to hold them again.
Enjoy them and this season of your life. Enjoy your role as their parent, the one who loves and teaches them, giving them their wings they need to fly. Love them, hug them, squeeze them tight, then do your “fluffy robot dance”(because apparently, there is something funny about mamas with fluffy robes doing the robot dance in the kitchen…who knew?!)
Make your days…and nights count.
Remind yourself that you are TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED!
“Her children rise up and call her blessed.”-Proverbs 31:28
Parenting is oh so hard! Beautifully written, thanks for the reminders:)

Motherhood was a gift I spent years crying and praying for and came in a way I never expected. Now, there are days that I can’t wait for naptime or bedtime so I can have a break, but, in those moments, I need to be reminded of God’s unconditional love for me. I need to take a breath, trust in God alone, and see the beauty in this crazy journey. Thanks for the reminders!

Yes ,parenting is really hard . As a mother of triplets I can really vouch for that. But I cannot imagine my life without them. I see God’s presence in their lives. I am indeed too blessed to be stressed 🙂
Great post !

This is beautifully written. When things get hard as a parent, it’s easy to get caught up in the mess, but things are not meant to be endured. A great reminder as to why we should never lose our joy!

I’m having my first on the 26 of this month. I can’t wait to enjoy every little moment, good and bad. Like you said, there’s no need to stress. They won’t always be there.
