“Marriage is an ongoing, vivid illustration of what it costs to love an imperfect person unconditionally. The same way Christ has loved us.”-Fierce Marriage

Having just celebrated another anniversary with my hubby(our 11th to be exact!), it made me reflect back to those first few years of marriage; and can I just say…we have really come a long way! Of course, just like the beginning of most marriages we started out young and in love, living on hopes, dreams, and p.b. & j’s. But soon, we were building a home and starting a family at the same time, learning how to transition from newly married husband and wife to mama and daddy responsible for raising up three tiny humans. (Note to Newbies: Spouses and children DO NOT come with owners’s manuals. They fall somewhere under the JUST WINGIN’ IT category of life…)

Believe me when I say, it wasn’t easy and we had our share of ups and downs, but we made it through. I can only credit that to God’s hand being on us both, guiding us through the hills and valleys, giving us those ‘I’m sorry’s’ and ‘I love you’s’ when it was needed the most. Every couple, I’m sure, has had their share of ups and downs as well and know its what you do in the tough times that will pull you through.

Trust in God’s plan for your life together and after that…BE FIERCE.

Love each other fiercely. Put your frustrations into making sure you don’t give up on one another. Fight for your mate. Love them enough to say, I am with you no matter what you feel in this moment. Be fiercely loyal to the commitment you have made. Help each other grow, with kindness and gentleness. Watch how much stronger your love can become when you put God first in your life. I have seen first hand what He can do.

My husband has loved me at my worst, provided for and protected me, and has given me three beautiful boys that fill my heart and hands. I am beyond blessed and I am so grateful. And just as God does for all of us, our blessings are because we fought…and loved…fiercely.

“Above all, love each other deeply because love covers a multitude of sins.”-1 Peter 4:8

“Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.”-Romans 12:10

“There is no more lovely, friendly, and charming relationship, communion, or company than a good marriage.”-Martin Luther
