How Does Your Garden Grow?

Well, it’s officially summer here and those who garden should be busy tending their gardens and harvesting their bounty, marveling at the rewards of their hard work. For a few years now, my husband and I have attempted a garden, learning as we go and are still very much beginners! We have had some successes and some failures and this year is no exception. We started out strong with high hopes and good intentions, but slowly started slacking and now our garden is lacking.:( Except for a few jars of tomatoes I canned and a couple of handfuls of squash, carrots, and blueberries in the freezer, that looks to be the extent of our harvest this year.

In a way, this can be compared to how our ‘spiritual garden’ can either grow and flourish or wither and die. Do you start out strong-prepping the soul/soil, sowing the seed and watering it daily only then to begin the slow fade, finding excuses why you can’t take the heat, do the work and get dirty to clear those weeds that are beginning to take over? I have been guilty of this not only with my garden but in the spiritual sense as well and I constantly tell myself-you only get out of it what you put into it. So, here’s some encouragement (for myself and you!)-get in the Word, dig deep, water your soul and your spiritual garden will flourish. Happy Harvesting!

“Sow your seed in the morning and do not be idle in the evening, for you do not know whether morning or evening sowing will succeed, or whether both of them alike will be good.”-Ecclesiastes 11:6
